Alder Objects started in 2016 in a converted barn outside Bruton, with one bench, a hide and a hand-stitching clamp bought second-hand. There are four of us now. There is still one bench each.

Why so few things

We could double the range tomorrow. It would mean learning to finish faster, and finishing faster is what makes objects that fail. So the catalogue stays short and the waiting list does its job.

What we will not do

We do not use chrome-tanned leather, we do not glue seams, and we do not run sales. If an object is not worth its price in October it was not worth it in January either.

Where the materials come from

The hides come from a single tannery in Devon, wool felt from a mill in Yorkshire, and the brass is machined by a workshop two miles from ours. Everything else we make ourselves.
